What the heck is Web 2.0, anyway? Do you know? Have you wondered?
Let me see if I can put it in the simplest terms possible:
Web 2.0 is not about changes in the world wide web itself. Web 2.0 is a difference in how people are using the web.
The days of static sites where people visited your company’s web site, read about what you do, looked at pictures, and got the information they were looking for about your products or services are gone.
I remember our very first web site in 1995. We entered this great unknown world kicking and screaming the whole way. (Thank you, Thomas!) We were among the first coaches to have an internet presence and we were pretty proud of that site. It was simple with only a few pages of information but, at the time, it was enough.
Our coaching site, SPARCK International, is now in it’s 5th evolution and is in the process of being morphed into a Web 2.0 site.
So back to Web 2.0 …
The new internet is about communication and interaction. People want to be able to participate in discussions and to share information.
Web 2.0 provides the means for users to add content to web sites. That’s what all the social-networking sites are about. You Tube, Facebook, My Space are all Web 2.0. Twitter is Web 2.0. Users are creating the content on their own sites and on other people’s as well. People are connecting and they like it!
All our Home Based Business Authority sites are being created with the "new internet" in mind. They are all being built using the WordPress platform. Whether the site is a corporate site (Home Based Business Authority), a sales page (Home Based Business Starter Kit), or our authoritative blog, we are using WordPress.
Most of our sites will invite participation. We want it and, more importantly, our customers want it.
I’ll talk a little more about some of the ways you can use the Web 2.0 social-networking to your advantage in your home based business in future posts. In the meantime, if you do nothing else, convert your website (or build it) to a WordPress blog and have a page that invites the participation of your visitors. That will be a great 1st step into the world of Web 2.0!

Success in your home based business can be easier if you use the technology available to help you.
Computers have leveled the playing field in business. You no longer need a billion dollar advertising budget to compete with the big boys.
What you need is the knowledge of the tools available to you through in internet PLUS knowledge of the programs and platforms that can put your business in front of more potential customers for your product or service.
The first thing you need is a web presence. If you don’t have a web site, get one! We are operating in a global market and more and more people are spending more and more time online. Billions of dollars are being spent by consumers on line. If you’re not online, you’re missing opportunities.
Unless you already have the skill, don’t try to build the site yourself. Hire somebody who knows what they’re doing.
Get yourself a blog and use it for your business. Make sure you use it to post relevant information that’s interesting and of value to your customers and potential customers.
Remember, your blog and your website are extensions of you and your business. People are going to be getting to know you and will be making decisions about whether they want to do business with you based on what they see on line. Make sure you are presenting the image you want people to see.
